Technical Assistant Manager
HT Chargeman will lead and supervise a skilled team of TOC facility chargemen to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of electrical and mechanical systems within the Data Centre. This critical role demands a high level of safety consciousness, operational excellence, and adherence to Energy Commission regulations, OSHA standards, and company policies.
The HT Chargeman will oversee all aspects of maintenance, from daily inspections to complex corrective actions, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum reliability of systems. Responsibilities include overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance for high-voltage (HT) and low-voltage (LV) systems, coordinating with vendors, and maintaining detailed records for audit and compliance purposes.
The role also involves operating and maintaining essential systems such as transformers, switchgear, gensets, cooling systems, DC rectifiers, and UPS. The HT Chargeman ensures the TOC facility's electrical systems are functioning optimally, providing technical leadership, and supporting system upgrades as needed.
A primary focus is on maintaining safety, operational reliability, and compliance while driving infrastructure improvements and ensuring smooth daily operations of the U Mobile Data Centre.
1. Team Leadership and Collaboration
• Lead and supervise a team of TOC chargemen to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations of all critical electrical and mechanical systems. Provide hands-on guidance, technical support, and task delegation to resolve daily operational challenges. Foster teamwork, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and drive performance excellence.
2. 24/7 Data Centre Operations
• Ensure 24/7 operational readiness of the Data Centre by leading routine inspections, hands-on troubleshooting, and emergency support for all critical systems. Act as the main escalation point during faults and outages, while training and empowering fellow chargemen to independently handle issues within their capacity to minimize downtime and ensure seamless continuity.
3. Electrical System Maintenance
• Possess deep technical knowledge to lead and perform regular maintenance, testing, and inspections on HT & LV switchgear, transformers, gensets, cooling systems, DC rectifiers, and UPS systems. Ensure all critical systems operate reliably and efficiently, with full compliance to Energy Commission (ST) regulations, local statutory requirements, and internal/external audit standards, while proactively identifying risks and improvement opportunities.
4. Safety and Compliance
• Ensure strict implementation and enforcement of safety protocols and procedures in full compliance with industry regulations and Energy Commission standards. Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and emergency drills to maintain staff preparedness and promote a culture of safety excellence across all operations.
5. Emergency Response
• Lead the team in promptly responding to electrical faults and emergencies, swiftly troubleshooting and diagnosing issues to minimize downtime. Act as the Electrical Competent Person (CP), delivering expert engineering assessments and ensuring effective solutions are implemented. Additionally, provide breakdown support and technical assistance at all U Mobile main TOCs as required.
6. System Upgrades and Projects
• Collaborate closely with in-house planning and operations teams to support the execution of M&E electrical system upgrades and new installations, ensuring seamless coordination with contractors and suppliers. Oversee project progress to guarantee timely delivery within scope and budget, aligning all activities with the operational requirements and long-term goals of the Data Centre.
7. Energy Management
•Continuously monitor and analyse electrical system performance to optimise energy efficiency, reduce power consumption, and lower operational costs. Proactively identify opportunities for energy-saving initiatives, develop implementation plans, and collaborate with relevant teams to execute measures that enhance sustainability and cost-effectiveness across the TOC Data Centre operations.
8. Training and Development
• Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for NFM junior staff and technicians on HT/LV electrical systems, operational best practices, and safety procedures. Continuously update personal and team knowledge by staying informed of the latest industry standards, technologies, and regulatory requirements to ensure the team’s skills remain current and aligned with evolving best practices.
9. Documentation and Reporting
• Maintain comprehensive and accurate records of all maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and service reports to ensure full audit compliance. Prepare and submit detailed, timely reports on system status, incidents, and recommended improvements, while promptly acknowledging service reports and coordinating necessary rectifications to uphold operational integrity.
10. Contractor and Vendor Management
• Manage and supervise subcontractors and vendors to ensure all work complies with quality standards and the defined scope of work (SoW). Continuously monitor and evaluate contractor performance to guarantee adherence to contract terms, timely delivery, and satisfactory completion of projects.
11. Critical System Isolation and Re-energization
• Perform critical system isolations and re-energizations for preventive and emergency maintenance in strict accordance with established procedures. Ensure all actions comply with TOC facility standards and safety protocols, while maintaining clear communication to minimize impact on operations and safeguard system integrity.
12. Licensing and Compliance
• Hold and maintain a valid B0 11kV competency license registered at the TOC, ensuring all licenses and certifications are renewed on time in accordance with Energy Commission (EC) regulations. Ensure that all electrical work complies fully with regulatory requirements for a B0 Chargeman registered with UM property. Additionally, confirm that all shift chargemen are registered at their assigned TOCs as required by the Energy Commission (EC).
